Abstract:Based on a marine medium-speed diesel engine, for the fuel injection timing, optimization of works were done by the computer simulation and bench experiment. Firstly, simulation test conditions were designed based on theoretical parameters. The data of combustion and pollutant emissions were analyzed, and the optimal fuel injection timing within the theoretical value range were obtained. Experiments were carried out according to the optimal values to verify the optimal fuel injection timing parameters. The simulation results showed that the center phase of combustion process moved forward with the advance of the injection timing, but the combustion duration did not change significantly. The maximum pressure of cylinder increased when the injection timing advanced. There were increments at 8° and 9° before top dead center, but the pressure did not change obviously with the increase of injection timing. The simulation data showed that the emission such as nitrogen oxides and soot were optimal in 10° before top dead center fuel injection timing. The bench test results showed that the collected cylinder pressure, heat release rate and pollutant emission were the best in the test condition that the fuel injection timing was 10° before top dead center.
