Abstract:Based on a gasoline direct injection(GDI) engine, and the gasoline injector replaced by hydrogen injector, the differences of combustion and emission characteristics between hydrogen and gasoline were studied. The thermal efficiency improvement ability and NOx emission of hydrogen engine under lean burn were studied, and the influence tendency of hydrogen fuel on engine combustion and pollutant emission was clarified. The results show that at stoichiometric operation, compared with gasoline, hydrogen has shorter combustion duration, lower effective thermal efficiency, higher NOx emission and significantly lower CO and total hydrocarbon(THC) emissions. When the engine is fueled with hydrogen, with excess air factor increases, the effective thermal efficiency is improved, and the 43.5% thermal efficiency can be achieved when λ is 2.7. Under high excess air factor, hydrogen engine can significantly reduce NOx emission with good combustion stability. Under low loads, when λ is greater than 2.3, the minimum NOx emission can be reduced to 44×10-6.
