Research on Effect of PODE/Diesel Blend on Low-Temperature Combustion and Emissions of a Heavy-Duty Engine

Abstract:The influence of poly-methoxyl dimethyl ether(PODE) on combustion and emissions was studied based on a low-temperature mode on a multi-cylinder heavy-duty diesel engine adopting exhaust gas recirculation strategy. The results show that PODE which has higher cetane number and oxygen content can effectively reduce the non-homogeneity of combustion in cylinder and reduce the pollutant emissions. PODE can also improve the diffusion combustion rate, shorten the combustion duration and improve thermal efficiency.
