Research on Application of Intake Pipe with Integrated Inter Cooler for Four Cylinder Diesel Engines

Abstract:To improve engine compactness, an intake pipe with integrated inter-cooler was designed for a four-cylinder engine by using the three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics simulation. The comprehensive engine performance, intake pressure wave and transient response under the external characteristic or full throttle condition were compared and analyzed before and after adopting such intake pipe. The test results show that after adopting the intake pipe with integrated intercooler, the engine rated power increases by 2.1%, the fuel consumption and temperature before turbine at the rated point reduce by 4.3 g/(kW•h) and 12 ℃ respectively, volumetric efficiency increases at high speed and decreases at low speed, and the transient response increases.
