Abstract:In order to further investigate the effect between swirl and spray in the cylinder of low-speed two-stroke marine diesel engines, a novel phenomenological model was developed and then used to optimize the spray direction. This model considered the swirl effects based on the traditional Hiroyasu’s multi-zone phenomenological model. In the model, the interaction between the swirl and the spray was divided into two stages, i.e. the collision of the air and the spray before the breakup, and the mixing and entrainment of the air after the breakup. According to the different physical effects of the two stages, the velocities at which the spray were deflected by the swirl in the two stages could be calculated with the conservation of momentum. The resultant velocity of the interaction between the spray and the swirl could be obtained by combining the calculated velocities and the original velocity of the spray. In this process, sub-models such as droplet evaporation and air entrainment were developed to make the simulation closer to the actual situation. The developed models were validated for predicting spray penetration and morphology parameters under different operating conditions (3 MPa~9 MPa, 400 K~900 K)compared with test data in literatares. And through the model, the influence of spray angle on spray penetration and morphology was further investigated, which could provide a theoretical basis for the subsequent optimization of low-speed engine. |
