Abstract:The engine tests were carried out in different spark timing and fuel mass of injection under the operation condition of 4000r/min and throttle position 35%, four types of fuels pure gasoline, acetone–butanol–ethanol (ABE)/gasoline blends ABE10 (10 %vol ABE blended with 90 %vol gasoline), ABE20 and ABE30. The effects of the ABE blend ratio, spark timing and lambda on the engine performance were analyzed. The performance parameters of each fuel engine at maximum brake power were compared. The results indicated that the fuel mass flow rate, the engine power, the brake thermal efficiency increase with increasing the ABE blend ratio at a given spark timing and lambda. The increase of the total heat of the fuel flow and heat-work conversion efficiency are the main reasons for the increase of the engine power. With the increase of the ABE blend ratio, nitric oxide (NO) emission decreased significantly; carbon monoxide (CO) emission increased slightly, hydrocarbon (HC) emission increased first and then decreased. The brake thermal efficiency of the engine increases more obviously under the fuel-rich operating condition than that of the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. However, the NO emission of the engine decreases more obviously in the same situation. The research shows that the high-speed gasoline engine fueled with ABE-gasoline blends has a good application prospect.
