Abstract:In order to study the matching of oil pump and lubricating system in driving cycles of a passage car, an oil bump testing system was set up. The performance of the oil pump in driving circles was tested, and the lubricating pressure and flow requirements were comparatively analyzed. The safe margins of oil pressure and flow during engine acceleration were deduced, and the oil pump driving energy saving potential based on the safe margins was proposed. The results showed that there was more acceleration in the extra urban cycle than in the urban cycle of the new European driving cycle(NEDC), requiring much more lubrication. The amount of demanded lubricating oil was less than what was supplied by the oil pump in the range between the peak torque and rated power, indicating the range was the most potential in energy saving. The driving condition had a great effect on the oil pump driving power. The excessive hydraulic power provided by the oil pump was approximately proportional to the engine speed in the range over piston spay cooling speed. The oil pump driving energy could be reduced by 8.9% by a fully variable displacement oil pump in the extra urban driving cycle, and by 32.1% in the urban driving cycle.
