Abstract:In order to study the effect of different blend fuels on vehicle performance, five test fuels with different olefin and aromatic hydrocarbon characteristics were prepared from 4 kinds of 10% in volume ethanol gasoline and a pure gasoline, and emission test were conducted with a gasoline direct injection(GDI) supercharged passenger vehicle. The test results show that when the vehicle runs according to the new European driving cycle(NEDC), the use of ethanol gasoline blend fuels will increase the fuel consumption per 100 kilometers of the vehicle, but its equivalent fuel consumption may be lower than the pure gasoline operation, which indicates that the use of ethanol gasoline blend fuels leads to increased thermal efficiency, reduced particulate emissions and good vehicle acceleration performance. As far as physiochemical properties concerned, an increase in the content of aromatics will cause the vehicles fuel consumption, particle numbers(PN) and NOx emissions to rise continuously. In terms of the overall performance of the vehicle, an efficient and clean operation of ethanol gasoline blend fuels can be achieved through fuel optimization. However, compared with pure gasoline operation, the use of ethanol gasoline blend fuels has higher CO and lower HC emissions under low speed and cold start conditions due to a lower engine operating temperature.
